Madhu

At the end of 1994, in a time where Indian designer wear was almost unheard of in Bangkok, Madhu Kalra held an exhibition to showcase her first collection of ethnic clothes with Western influences. Encouraged by the rave reviews from her first showing, she continued to hold exhibitions every few months until she opened up her own boutique in Sukhumvit Soi 39. Today, she has an ever growing clientele and a strong and loyal customer base.

Madhu has come to specialise in customised clothing of all sorts ranging from stylish youthful ethnic party-wear to everyday salwar-kameezes. Her versatility means that in a single day, she may design a dress for a high school student seeking a prom dress, to a middle aged woman looking to cut up her old saris and transform them into contemporary creations for her daughers, to a bride desiring a heavy extravagant lehenga. She is known for her uncanny ability to “rescue” pieces that seem unsalvageable, and for creatively and boldly matching prints and textures. Whether you would like to bring her your own materials to work with or choose from her huge range of designer fabrics, or a combination of the two, your needs are sure to be met.
